Coordinator’s Message

Sebnem Golbasi

Dear Parents and students,

I would like to welcome back all students to Sirius College. I hope you had a fantastic and a restful holiday during the summer break. My name is Sebnem Golbasi and this is my fifth year at Sirius College as a Humanities teacher and my third year as a Secondary Girls Coordinator.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new students and families. Beginning a new school can be tough for students sometimes and it is normal to feel nervous as you step into a new environment. Our college is very welcoming, but if you feel you need extra assistance in settling into the school you can ask for help from our School Counsellor, Mrs Figen Arslan and relevant coordinators.

This term has proceeded quickly and it has been an interesting and fun filled time with an array of learning opportunities and experiences. Students participated in many different activities this term and it has been a pleasure to see happy faces at school.

The Year Sevens started the term with a special orientation day program where students were engaged in various activities and information sessions during the day. Student photos were taken on the orientation day to keep a memory of their first day at secondary school.

As you may know, the Sirius College uniform transition process is now over. This means that students are required to wear the full new uniform this year. Students may face consequences for being out of uniform.

It has been brought to my attention that some of our new students are not aware of our “no jewellery: policy”. Female students are only allowed to wear wristwatch and one earring in each ear lobe. I suggest that all of our new students to read the student handbook which is available on our school website.

Lateness to school on a regular basis has a negative effect on student learning. Especially, when they are missing the same subject regularly, this will create knowledge gap which will reflect in their assessments. Lessons begin at 8:50am every day. Lateness also creates disruptions to the class they participate in and it interferes with other students learning time. Please encourage your daughters and sons to be on time so that they get the most out of their education.

I wish everyone a safe and a restful break.

Regards,

Sebnem Golbasi
